The third generation G (V35) was unveiled in June 2001. Released to North America for the 2003 model year, as the G35 on March 12, 2002. It had little in common with the Infiniti G20,
The G35 was based on the Nissan FM platform shared with the Nissan 350Z sports car. The G35 was Motor Trend’s Car of the Year for 2003.

The redesigned second-generation G coupe (V36) was launched in August 2007 as a 2008 model. It had a larger 3.7 L, the first Infiniti engine VQ37VHR  to feature VVEL. It too came with either a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. All manual G models include a sports package. The 2009 G37 convertible was launched in June 2009.
