Produced by Chevrolet from 1965 to 1996, the Caprice was a full-size car that dominated sales, with over a million units sold in 1965 alone. It became the most popular car in the U.S. during the 1960s and early 1970s, alongside models like the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.
Launched as a luxury trim for the Impala in mid-1965, the Caprice evolved into a full lineup, including formal hardtop coupes and Estate station wagons in subsequent years. The 1971 to 1976 models are notable for their size, while the downsized versions from 1977 and the redesigned 1991 models received the Motor Trend Car of the Year award. Production ceased in 1996.
The Caprice nameplate returned from 2011 to 2017 as a full-size, rear-wheel-drive police vehicle, a rebadged version of the Holden WM/WN Caprice imported from Australia. Additionally, the Caprice served civilian and police markets in the Middle East from 1999 to 2017, marketed as the Chevrolet Caprice.
