RS4
The Audi RS 4 is the high-performance variant of the Audi A4 range produced by Audi. It sits above the Audi S4 as the fastest, car based on the A4’s B platform. The RS 4 was reintroduced in 2012, based on the A4 Avant instead of the sedan as did the original model.
The original B5 version was produced only as an Avant. The second version, the B7, was released initially as a four door five seat saloon-sedan and Avant following a short while later. A two-door four seat Cabriolet version was subsequently added.
The “RS” initials are taken from the German RennSport literally translated as racing sport. Audi marque’s highest trim level, positioned above the “S” model specification of Audi’s regular model line-up. Like other Audi RS cars, the RS4 pioneers some of Audi’s latest advanced technology. It is only available with Audi’s Torsen based quattro permanent 4wd drive system.
The RS4 Avant was built by Quattro and was a 380 hp beast, with a 2.7-liter V6. It was unveiled for the public in 2000 and its production only last 2 years, until 2002. The model was built as an estate-wagon body only, no coupes and sedans were available.
The RS4 was much like the regular Audi A4 Avant, however, the technical features differenced the two a lot.
The car sproted 18-inch alloy wheels with extremely efficient ventilated discs. The car went from 100 kph to a full stop in just 2.5 seconds. The power was transmitted to the road by the awd permanent system and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The RS4 had a maximum top speed of 250 kph and reached 100 kph in 4.9 seconds.
The interior was different from the A4 due to its sporty Recaro Seats all wrapped up in leather. Other features included a 3-spoke steering wheel and a 170 watt Bose sound system.
Even if the RS4 was a car that left Porsche 911 in dust, it was practical as well. It had 390 liters of loadspace and 1250 liters with the rear seats folded.
The safety equipment of the RS4 included dual front airbags, front side airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, ESC and traction control.
