CL
The Acura CL is a midsize grand tourer manufactured by Honda’s Acura brand from 1996 to 1999, and from 2000 to 2003. The CL is often thought to have been a replacement for the Acura Legend. It was not directly related to the first gen TL either. A Japanese-built model which replaced the Vigor and had a longitudinal engine layout. All Acura CLs were built at Honda’s plant in East Liberty, Ohio, which is also the plant that builds the Honda Civic. The 2nd genTL and the Honda Accord upon which the Acura CLs were based, are built at Honda’s plant in Marysville, Ohio. The CL was the first Acura to be built in the United States.
Acura introduced the all-new CL model to the North-American market in 1997. Aiming to replace the old Legend Coupe model on the premium luxury & sport market.
Being the first Acura model to be built entirely in the United States. The all-new CL was available with two trim levels – base and premium. It featured either a 2.2L 150-hp engine of a 3.0L V6 unit delivering 220-hp. The premium variant was discontinued in 1999 and all its features became standard. On the base model, including leather upholstery and trunk cargo net.
